DIN is a unique Identification Number allotted to an individual who wish to be appointed
as director of a company, upon making an application in form DIR-3 pursuant to Sections
153 & 154 of the Companies Act, 2013. DIN is also required
to be appointed as Designated Partner in Limited Liability Partnership.
Steps involved in obtaining DIN:
1) For new Company Incorporation:
DIN may be obtained by the proposed directors (maximum 3 Nos) in the company under
incorporation through Form INC-32(SPICe).
2) For appointment in existing Companies:
e-Form DIR-3:
Every applicant, who intends to be appointed as director of an existing company
shall make an application electronically in Form DIR-3, to the Central Government
for allotment of a Director Identification Number (DIN) and should follow the following
procedure:
Online e-Filing
e-Form DIR-3 has to follow the common online e-Filing process.
Supporting Documents
Attach the photograph and scanned copy of supporting documents i.e. attested proof
of identity and proof of residence as prescribed under the rules.
Along with the supporting documents, verification by the applicant for applying
for allotment of DIN shall also be attached. This shall contain the Name, Father's
name, date of birth, present address and text of declaration and physical signature
of the applicant.
Digital Signature
e-Form DIR-3 is mandatorily to be signed by the Applicant and a CS in whole time
employment or director/manager/CEO/CFO of an existing company in which the applicant
is proposed to be the director.
Fee Payment
Upon upload, pay the fees for e-form DIR-3. Only electronic payment of the fees
shall be allowed (i.e. Net banking / Credit Card / NEFT). No Challan payment will
be accepted under procedure of DIN allotment.
Generation of DIN
Upon upload and successful payment, In case e-Form DIR-3 details have not been identified
as potential duplicate, DIN shall be generated and if the details have been identified
as potential duplicate, Provisional DIN shall be generated.
Verification of eForm:
In case, details of eForm DIR-3 are found as potential duplicate, the same gets
routed to DIN cell for back office processing. Upon approval of the form, provisional
DIN becomes approved DIN and would be available for further use.

For Foreign Nationals
1. Passport is mandatory (Self-attested)
2. Photograph JPEG format (Soft copy)
3. Proof of identity of applicant (Self-attested- Voter ID/Passport/Driving license)
4. Proof of residence of applicant (Self-attested & Apostilled Bank Statement
/ Electricity Bill / Telephone Bill/Mobile Bill)
5. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
